Mahindra Oil Filter Replacement: 5 Helpful Facts

Posted by Reubicon Tractor Parts on 1st May 2022

At Reubicon Tractor Parts, we can provide you with just about any part you might need to keep your Mahindra tractor in top shape. This includes a Mahindra oil filter, and these filters often need to be replaced and we have a huge selection of filters for just about any make or model of Mahindra tractor.

1. Clean Oil Filters Are Essential

It’s easy to forget or put off maintenance tasks but replacing filters and checking fluid levels are two of the best ways to keep your Mahindra tractor in good shape well past the warranty expiration. Keeping your tractor lubricated is crucial, and a quality oil filter will filter out debris and dirt and ensure that your tractor functions properly.

2. Oil Filters Should Be Replaced Often

Typically, a Mahindra oil filter should be replaced after about 200 hours of use, and it usually is recommended that you change the filter a little earlier than you really need to, so if you are at about 190 hours and you have some time, it’s better to tackle oil filter replacement a little early rather than putting this task off for another time.

Also, it is important to keep in mind that this 200-hour timeline is not always the ideal timeline. In some cases, you might want to change out the filter well before the 200 hours have passed. If you run your tractor over rough terrain or in extreme temperatures, you might want to handle this task more quickly than the typical 200-hour guideline.

3. Master This Task & Save Money

Changing out the oil filter (or any filter really) is a task that you can learn to do yourself. There are tons of video tutorials out there, and while changing out an oil filter can be a messy job, it saves you the expense and inconvenience of using a mobile mechanic. Just do an internet search using your Mahindra model number and “change oil filter.”

There should be several video results that pop up, and even if you don’t find your exact model shown, chances are someone will demonstrate an oil filter change on a model similar enough to your specific Mahindra tractor to help you get the job done. Over time, most tractor owners should be able to master all of the typical filter replacements and maintenance tasks needed to keep their machines in good working order.

4. Don’t Forget To Replace Other Filters!

While replacing the oil filter is important, Mahindra tractors have several other filters that need replacement from time to time. These Mahindra tractor filters include air filters and fuel filters. Your tractor manual will provide you with guidelines as to when you need to replace these filters but again, these guidelines don’t always paint the full picture.

Anytime you notice issues such as poor acceleration or perhaps difficulty with starting up the engine, a dirty fuel filter might be to blame, and this could occur before the regularly scheduled replacement time. Air filters typically need to be changed or cleaned after about 50 hours of use, but if you work in particularly dusty or dirty conditions, this might be needed more quickly, perhaps after just 30 hours.

5. Create A Tractor Diary

Grab an inexpensive notebook or use a spreadsheet program to ensure that you are completing oil filter changes and all other maintenance tasks in a timely manner. Oil filter replacement typically occurs at around the 200-mark, as we stated above, but while you are completing that task, you also could complete several other maintenance jobs.

We recommend that you consider changing the engine oil when you change the filter. The oil can become dirty or contaminated over time and adding a fresh batch of oil will keep your tractor running its best. We also recommend that you inspect the fan belt, air conditioner belt (if applicable) and the alternator belts and swap these out if needed. A broken fan or alternator belt can cause a great deal of damage, so if yours looks worn, we should have these in stock and ready to ship.

You also might need to change out the hydraulic oil and lubricate all of the fittings and joints. Check the air filter, as well, and replace this item if needed. It also is wise to check the tire pressure and ensure the battery is clean and has a good charge. Be sure to record all of the tasks you completed.

Typically, tractor owners will need to complete certain daily maintenance tasks, as well. These include inspecting the tires for signs of wear or low tire pressure. Checking all of the fluid levels before use also is a smart step to take. You also should do a quick battery check, especially if you’ve been running your tractor over some rough ground as batteries can come loose as can their connections.

If you run your tractor in a construction zone or anywhere people are working or driving, it’s also smart to check your lights, turn signals and flashers to make sure that your tractor is always visible.
